Fifth Generation CEO Rises to Leadership at Office Furniture Source

Leadership of Office Furniture Source, Cincinnati’s premier office furniture specialist, passes to a fifth generation with the recent appointment of Peter Ellington as CEO. Ellington has been a key player in the longtime family business which he succeeds from father-in-law, founder and owner John M. Perin. Father and son-in-law have been working alongside one another since 2013, exceeding tri-state customer expectations in service and quality in the office furniture business.

Perin is excited to see where the next branch of his entrepreneurial family tree takes the business. He announces this shift in leadership with confidence and pride.

Peter and John worked on their transition with the help of the University of Cincinnati’s Goering Center for Family & Private Business.  “We entered their Next Generation Institute to help us hash through the critical aspects of transitioning a business.  The Center has been a vital resource in guiding our business decisions,” Ellington adds.

William Perin, John’s great-great-grandfather, launched the first of a string of family businesses built to serve Cincinnati offices in 1893. The Gibson & Perin Company was a celebrated stationery and printing company for 100 years, once filling more than 35,000 square feet with 70+ employees at its service center on West Fourth Avenue in downtown Cincinnati.

John joined the family business in 1974 and continued sowing seeds of success in the office supply business when he established Office Furniture Source, known for its large warehouse and prestigious showroom. Today, the business thrives with Ellington at the helm at its Kemper Road location in Sharonville.

“We have enjoyed an extended family in our employees—many of them have been working with us for over 20 years,” says Perin. “We are all excited about Peter’s fresh perspective and what it brings to our workplace and the companies we serve.”  Peter adds that John isn’t going anywhere, “I absolutely value his experience and perspective and will continue to tap into that as long as he’ll let me.”
